Title: Parker: Virtual Performance Space
Author(s): Evans, Chaz
Abstract: My focus in studying art history is the intersection between performance and new media art. In an effort to explore how the digital body of a virtual performer might work I have constructed a virtual performance venue within the 3D modeling program Maya. At UIC I have had the benefit and privilege of being an Art History student with access to the instruction and facilities of the Electronic Visualization department. This interdisciplinary approach helps me explore my field greatly. The image displays the virtual performance space itself complete with stage, performers and audience. It is designed for the virtual version my real world performance collective, parker, who have created staged performances and installations in Chicago since 2006. The space is also designed to be imported into an online virtual world such as Second Life, so that virtual performances can be viewed by a virtual art-going public.
