Heartichoke SchlehleinHeidi 2011 This image was created from my drawings in Photoshop. It is representative of the work I do in the BVIS program, by encouraging people to think about the anatomical in different ways. The whimsy of the piece reflects the fact that art, and medical art doesn’t always need to be presented in the same manner every time. The artichoke is a vegetable that is good for heart health, and placing the heart inside the artichoke is a subtle reminder that foods and eating right can help your organs stay in excellent shape. This piece is representative of one of the many ways biomedical visualization can be subtle, effective, and aesthetic.
