A novel method of isolating and quantifying the acoustic signature produced by left ventricular assist devices was developed. Spectral analysis revealed harmonic peaks whose frequency matched expected values based on device impeller speed. Analysis of spectral tracings and area under the curve of spectral slices suggested an acoustic pattern associated with thrombosis.
