This is a digital painting (not photo manipulation) made using Photoshop paint brushes. The image is of a man proudly revealing his prosthetic limb, and likewise a portion of a United States Marine Corps tattoo just beneath his shirt. This illustration was created in the spirit of concept art to bring a bit of hope and vision for future development in the field of biomedical visualization. There is, of course, a reciprocal history between war and the development of prosthetic technology, hence the USMC reference. This image is not intended to be a political statement, but rather is a simple statement of fact. Students of biomedical visualization are called upon to illustrate both educational material as well as exciting and inspiring pieces of art in order to communicate to our audience.
