Technology in the medical world is moving forward at a rapid pace and as a byproduct, the face of medical illustration is changing. This new face has a great deal of three dimensional software and hardware attached to it. My research is focused on incorporating new technology into medical illustration in a way that can best serve the field of health care. This image is a render of a three dimensional environment. Acid reflux is the specific mechanism that is being illustrated. The mechanism is shown here at the microscopic, cellular, and anatomical level. The image was created using a variety of two dimensional and three dimensional imaging software including Adobe Creative Suite and 3D Studio Max. This image illustrates the effectiveness of combining three dimensional imaging methods with traditional illustrative techniques to provide an improved level of medical communication.
