This picture depicts Drosophila melanogaster during a courtship learning experiment. My lab has characterized a gene in the fruitfly that encodes for a transporter which when knocked out makes these flies bisexual. This is an experiment that I ran to show the flies hypersexual behavior as well as their trouble learning appropriate courtship responses. The picture is a screenshot of a video where the male fly (with wing outstretched) is “singing” to the female.
