Thirty five 3-dimensional models of miniscrew implants in bone were created using Abaqus, a commercial finite element analysis software. Factors related to implant design, placement angulation and bone properties were varied and the effects of those factors were determined by the analysis which calculated the stresses in the implants and surrounding bone. The image shows the colored stress contours in the alveolar bone surrounding the implants and the legend in the top left corner shows the stress values contributing to each color. The results of all models were plotted in a similar way and the numbers were compared to determine which factors had a significant influence on the stresses. The image was produced by Abaqus, the same software used to run the analysis.
