As an architecture student, the world is your playground. Whether the most massive building or the minutest of details, everything offers insight and inspiration. This particular photo was taken at ground level one sunny afternoon of a field of grass growing up through a brick-paved walkway, on what was formerly the exterior surrounding wall of the moat of Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome. A perfect example of how a surface can be firm enough for feet and cars and yet include growth and permeability, as well as beauty.
