This image represents the most cutting edge developments in Dynamic Transmission Electron Micropscopy (DTEM). This frontier work will allow electron microscopes to “see” as fast as modern lasers can. This should allow us to see the dynamics (movements) of individual nanoparticles, in ways that have been totally impossible until DTEM. This image shows our green laser pulse entering the vacuum chamber and creating the electrons that will eventually power a prototype DTEM. Inside the metal circle on the right side of the image one can see a glowing green circle. While the may at first seem to be the laser, these are the electrons visible on the phosphor screen. The green color is an artifact of the camera, seeing so much light from the laser.
