My research project is the creation of a public-friendly educational animation on the process of stonefish envenomation and how it affects the cardiovascular system in humans. The animation will go through how humans can initially become victims of stonefish envenomation, then display at a high level how the venom travels locally through the tissue to a blood vessel, and finally the gross-level effects that the venom has on the heart rate. The image submitted shows an encounter with a stonefish just prior to envenomation, where the foot steps upon the dorsal spines of the stonefish. The image was created in Autodesk Maya, and the final animation in its entirety will be displayed at the Field Museum in the spring.
