A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats: Bringing Our Expertise to Enhance the Digital Collections Workflow

In preparation for a migration to a new digital asset management system, the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) Library revamped their metadata workflow for digital collections. The old workflow varied from project to project. It was also unclear who should be involved at each step, making collaboration difficult. The new metadata workflow instead laid out clear guidelines and established step by step procedures that made content available to the public more quickly. Stakeholders from the Digital Programs & Services (DPS), Resource Acquisition & Management (RAM), and the Special Collections & University Archives (SCUA) departments collaborated on the workflow, incorporating the needs, strengths and perspectives of each department. This poster will highlight the specific perspectives of the stakeholders from DPS, RAM and SCUA and the improvements they brought to the new workflow.
