Assessment of Two Options for Limited Treatment of Anterior Dental Misalignment

posted on 2017-10-28, 00:00 authored by Shahab ParsaObjective: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of tooth movement using two esthetic treatment systems for treatment of minor misalignment of anterior teeth, namely the Dentsply MTM Clear Aligner and Incognito Lite systems. Methods: Initial malocclusion, predicted digital setup and final treatment outcomes of 34 patients treated with Incognito Lite and 27 patients treated with MTM Clear Aligner were evaluated. The amounts of planned movement were compared between MTM and Incognito Lite. In addition, the discrepancies between the planned position of teeth and the final treatment outcome were evaluated against clinically significant values of 0.5mm and 4 degrees. Results: When comparing planned movements, Incognito Lite cases had a statistically significant higher mean planned movement for most movement types (p-value <0.05). When comparing final outcome and digital setup, no movement types showed statistically significant higher mean discrepancies compared to clinically significant test values of 0.5mm or 4 degrees, while some values showed statistically significant lower mean values compared to these limits (p-value <0.05). Conclusions: For properly diagnosed and treatment planned cases, both Incognito Lite and MTM Clear Aligner systems can lead to clinically acceptable results. In our sample, Incognito Lite cases had larger amounts of planned movement and therefore are more suitable when such movements are needed in a case. The mean and standard deviation values for the amounts of planned tooth movement using each system can help clinicians determine the appropriate system for cases of mild anterior misalignment.
