Chronic vascular diseases are the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in the world. With no known effective therapies on the market, understanding the predominant vascular responses to ischemia can potentially lead to effective therapies to combat this global health issue. We investigated key developmental transcription factors important for endothelial development and angiogenesis. We further looked to mimic aspects of vasculogenesis and arterial specification to develop new therapies to enhance neovascularization.
