A work of creative nonfiction in the partial style of a memoir, 'Decay' mirrors the technical and historical aspects of dentistry against the narrator’s struggles with mental illness. As this narrative unfolds, it explores the experiences, procedures, and consequences of dentistry through chronicling the events surrounding the narrator’s tooth, Nineteen. These two seemingly incongruent topics complement one another in their nuances and complexity as the artistry of the creative nonfiction form brings both to life.
