Performing Britishness: The Emergence of British Colonial Club Culture in Colonial Calcutta

This dissertation examines the role of clubbability and how it further informs the logic of British colonial role in South Asia. By examining the exclusionary practices of clubbability that originated in London, flourished in Calcutta and made a return to London the aim of this dissertation has been to unravel the various networks of connection that existed between the metropole and the colonial state.
