In this dissertation, a phytochemical analysis of a West African ethnomedicinal plant, Icacina trichantha, was carried out. A bioassay-guided fractionation approach was applied to find novel secondary metabolites from plant extract material. The structures of these new compounds were elucidated using spectroscopic methods including HRESIMS, NMR, CD spectroscopy, and x-ray crystallography. The isolated natural products were evaluated for their cytotoxic and anti-germination activities.
