Novel. After a series of miscarriages, Viola Wilder-St. Clair begins an affair with the FBI agent who has been snooping around the library where she works; her husband Robert, in attempting to treat her falling-out-of-love as a medical condition, becomes drawn further and further into Indianapolis’s underground culture of volunteer human test subjects, or “guinea piggers.”
