Tax-Exempt/Private Nonprofit Hospital Investments and Decision-Making Factors in Addressing the Social Determinants of Health: A Multi-Case Study

<p dir="ltr">This dissertation sought to explore how private tax-exempt/nonprofit hospitals were addressing the social determinants of health (SDOH) as a result of a changing health care environment in Chicago. Using an exploratory qualitative multi-case study design, this dissertation explored the following:</p><p dir="ltr">· Hospital leaders’ perspectives on the role of private tax-exempt/nonprofit hospitals in addressing the SDOH</p><p dir="ltr">· The type of SDOH activities and approaches that private tax-exempt/nonprofit hospitals were undertaking</p><p dir="ltr">· How private tax-exempt/nonprofit hospitals were implementing these types of SDOH activities and approaches</p><p dir="ltr">· The facilitators and barriers to undertaking SDOH activities and approaches</p>
