The Impact of Care Coordination Strategies in Health Information Systems on Healthcare Outcomes

This study will be assessing care coordination functionalities in health information technologies and their impact on healthcare outcomes. Health information systems originated in the economic management segment of the health care discipline. Over the years, these systems have evolved into a sophisticated, yet fragmented group of technologies with the goal of delivering safe, appropriate, patient-centered care, including care coordination. Care coordination measures in this study are identified and will be assessed for their impact on patient experiences as care outcomes. In this study, we will build a framework that identifies the measures of care coordination currently embedded in health information technologies, and we will evaluate the effects of these measures on healthcare outcomes. The link between care coordination measures in health information systems and healthcare outcomes will be assessed against sociotechnical determinants that could affect this link
