This dissertation examines the historical and contemporary lives of transcultural decorative arts produced in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in Kerala, India, arguing for their sensorial and political efficacy in colonial and courtly sociopolitical encounters in India and Europe. Simultaneously, this dissertation investigates how art is made in littoral Kerala through diverse transcultural practices.
